COVID 10: Is COVID-19 an airborne disease? Will we all need to wear face-masks against SARS-CoV-2?

There seems to be a lot of confusion in the droplet versus aerosol discussion and how these relate to the spread of COVID-19. Is it airborne and inhaled or droplet based via fomites and hands? The uncomfortable truth is that we have evidence for both modes.

In this video we first define what a droplet and an aerosol is based on their behaviour in the environment. We then examine both through the findings from two published studies. We will also discuss how long viral particles survive and stay viable and able to infect after they fall on a surface or get suspended in the air.

For COVID-19, we agree that the various transmission routes may predominate in different settings. The airborne route is relevant for hospitals and hospital staff as well as crowded and badly ventilated public spaces. Everyone else is more likely to get the virus through touching surfaces, bad hand hygiene and then touching their face.

Just wear mask if you want to stay safe. Or else you infect others or you will get infected by others.

The re-suspension of viruses in the air happened because of discharging of plastic gowns due to the electrostatic property of plastic materials. They tend to attract these suspended droplets with oily-surfaces viruses while the staff move around wearing it and charge it with every motion. In Iraq, they have found that early.

all hospitals should have a CLEAN ROOM, a HEPA filtered air room, positive pressure, where doctors and nurses can take off their n95 respirators, and feel safe, a full face mask, (instead of a n95 respirator), where the hazmat covers the hair, so there is not a part of the body that can be in contact with the virus, IS BETTER, because very strong desinfectants can be used, when the doctor leaves the very contaminated rooms, and enters the clean rooms, this was used in a hospital in Italy during this pandemic, and none of the doctors and nurses have been infected

Droplets when sneezing are 73.6–85.8 µm or even 341.5–398

    Talking and coughing 5–36 µm

I m actually done the the WHO's experts that said you shouldnt wear mask because its not effective. Compare the countries whos not listening to WHO and keep wearing mask, ie Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea, Singapore to the western countries which worship WHO, ie European countries and USA. Statistics speak the truth.

So a continuum between large droplets and aerosols and all are present with every sneeze and breath. Stay at home if you can.

What is unsatisfacory in the testing of surfaces is the question whether the reason is the material type or the speed of water evaporation. Naturally, a cardboard will dry quicker than polished steel or plastic. Copper is special because it is toxic. If it is the water and not the material type, then humidity is a more important factor.

Dummy, we humans do NOT have the power and massive water rolling up on a beach as the ocean does. our breath unless we are out in a 50 mph wind, does NOT travel more than a foot or two, even if we cough. Thats like saying when we cough, we can spew our germs 50 feet.

I really think those Dyson air hand blowers that seem to have made their way into all major public bathrooms need to be removed immediately. I don't understand why using high pressure air to dry the hands rapidly, by means of aerosolising/turning into droplets all of the water from the hands and distrubuting it all around the bathroom was a good idea EVER??

Congratulations, you have now installed in a lot of people the misguided believe that they need to hoard not only surgical masks but FFP2 masks, too.

Which exacerbates the problem that doctors and nurses don't have enough and adequate personal protective equipment for ICU conditions where it really counts!

The virus needs water to survive. Increase temperature and reduce humidity as much as possible in any area dealing with sick patients and changing rooms. The virus will dry out immediately once outside, thus reducing the risk of infection.

Not droplets, Aeresol. Look at the case results. Sixty someE folks participate in a Choir practice. EVERYONE IS ASYMPTOMATIC. They practiced social distancing. Hand sanitizer. The results 3 weeks later. 49 infections, 2 hospitalizations, 3 dead. The aeresol can travel through the air from a runner 10 paces ahead of you, or the breath of the man on the park bench. Wear a mask, kn95 from amazon or alibaba. Wear 2 pairs of gloves and take off one after leaving stores, etc… Stay at home away from other people.

I made my own mask. Put facial wipe under a cotton scarf or surgical mask placing Andrex tissue around the edges carefully. I think we all need to be extra careful and wear a mask & gloves when we go out. Better to be Safe then Sorry. I wish everyone to keep safe and sound. We can only do what we can . Isn't it
